Senior Software Engineer

This position will be responsible for working on a combination of Windows systems to collect, analyze, and distribute real time traffic data. This will include working on the dissemination of this information via web sites. In addition, the Senior Software Engineer will be working within a team in the advanced traveler information systems (ATIS) arena.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent
  • At least 7 years direct experience with Windows development using Visual Studio, C#, .NET, Java, SQL Server database development
  • At least 3 years experience system design and system architecture development
  • At least 4 years experience in website development (design and coding)
  • At least 3 years experience with web services and interfacing with other systems through XML
Qualifications Desired
  • Master of Science Degree or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

Transportation Engineer

Responsible for aiding in the planning and design of Transportation related projects, including Project Studies and plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E) documents. The primary focus will be in both public and private roadway systems, but may include any discipline in the Transportation field. The candidate should have a working knowledge of both State (Caltrans, AASHTO) and local agency (city and county) guidelines and design criteria.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work on all aspects of Transportation Design, including roadway alignments, profile grades, geometrics, drainage facilities, construction details, construction staging, utility plans and any other component of Project Studies or PS&E
  • Calculate quantities and prepare engineering estimates
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, and memos for development of transportation projects
  • Perform preliminary field investigations and existing data research to be used in preparation of a working project base file with topography, mapping, and utilities
  • Organize and maintain project files
  • Assure that all PS&E are in accordance with company production and design standards
  • Provide the design staff with guidance and assistance on projects.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and review work of other engineers and technicians.
  • Assist Project Managers with specific project activities such as client and agencies interface.

Transportation Planning Intern

The Transportation Planning Intern is an Unclassified (Non-Civil Service) position usually used to employ college students in engineering, environmental and maritime/trade programs.

The Transportation Planning Intern performs duties appropriate to the area of study; work is usually performed under the guidance of experienced personnel and may include engineering or planning work, research and analytical projects, statistical compilation, communications and community outreach, promotional activities, and general administrative assignments. Duties will include:

  • Assisting in the review and preparation of traffic and land use studies for Port facilities
  • Assisting with reviewing and updating Planning documents and programs
  • Developing databases, including data collection (such as traffic counts and cargo volume)
  • Utilizing Synchro, TransCAD, and GIS
  • Analyzing regulatory and legislative issues
  • Other appropriate duties as may be necessary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Enrollment in an accredited college or university at graduate level. A major in Transportation Planning/Engineering or Urban and Regional Planning/Policies or related field is preferred. Familiarity with traffic engineering and transportation engineering/planning principles and methodologies (including computer software applications) is desired. The applicant should possess a valid California driver's license. They may also be required to correspond with other governmental agencies; hence, good written and oral communication skills are necessary. Experience with MS Office is essential (Word, Excel, Access) and familiarity with GIS is desired.
